What surprises and joys will new technologies and solutions for mobile phone batteries bring us in 2025?

In recent years, new technologies and new solutions for mobile phone batteries have been emerging, mainly including new battery materials, battery management technology, charging technology and other innovations.

New battery materials
Silicon anode battery: Android's flagship smartphone will be equipped with a new silicon anode lithium-ion battery (i.e., pure silicon battery) by mid-2025. The charging capacity of this battery will be increased by 15% on the basis of traditional lithium batteries, and the battery capacity will be larger than that of silicon carbon anode batteries.
High-density silicon carbon battery: OPPO is developing a high-density silicon carbon battery with a capacity of about 7700mAh. If the solution is realized, OPPO's products will be equipped with this ultra-large capacity battery next year to further improve the battery life of the phone.
Ultra-large capacity battery : Xiaomi is testing a 7,500mAh single-cell battery and is expected to feature a combination of a 7,000mAh ±battery with 100-watt fast charging in the future REDMI K80 Ultra or REDMI Turbo 4 Pro. In addition, Honor has developed a 7800mAh ± battery, and Redmi also plans to launch an 8000mAh ± battery.

Battery management technology
Battery Management System (BMS): BMS is commonly used in modern mobile phones to manage battery charging, discharging, and temperature control to ensure the safe and efficient use of the battery. The BMS can monitor the status of the battery and prevent problems such as overcharge, overdischarge and short circuit.
Smart battery management: Some high-end phones are equipped with an intelligent battery management system, which is able to automatically adjust the output power of the battery according to the usage and extend the battery life. For example, when the phone is in low-power mode, the system automatically reduces the brightness of the screen and the frequency of the processor, thus reducing power consumption.
Fast charging technology
Advances in fast charging technology have made it possible to charge for no longer and perhaps even shorter, even with increased battery capacity. At present, Android phones are generally equipped with 100W or even 120W super fast charging, and users no longer sacrifice the user experience because of the increased battery capacity.

Battery packaging technology
Advances in battery packaging technology have also led to an increase in cell density of about 3% per year, thus increasing the overall capacity of the battery. This means that the capacity of the new generation battery has been significantly improved compared to the second generation of batteries of the same size.
Battery structure design
Apple plans to introduce a new battery adhesive in the iPhone 17 series, which will allow users to disassemble and repair their phones themselves. Users only need to properly apply a low-voltage current of 9V to the new bond to get the battery to detach from the motherboard frame effortlessly, which is faster and safer than traditional stretch-release adhesives12. The new adhesive is already available in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, but not in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

It is foreseeable that the Android lineup mobile phone battery is developing rapidly in the direction of larger capacity, and with the blessing of fast charging technology, the battery life anxiety that has attracted much attention will be significantly improved. As a global giant, Apple's mobile phone is also starting new attempts, including continuous optimization of the increasingly perfect battery management system and easy-to-remove battery structure design.
